Last minute ‘Rapid Response: Fight the Trump Takeover’ event brings 300 to 400 protesters to Flagstaff City Hall

FLAGSTAFF — Even though it was on short notice, a crowd of 300 to 400 or so protesters gathered at the Flagstaff City Hall on Aug. 16, 2025 as part of the “Rapid Response: Fight the Trump Takeover” to protest the potential moves by the Trump Administration and its allies in Texas change the voting map to keep Republican in power in Congress. The protest in Flagstaff included members of Indivisible Northern AZ and other organizations. “Trump told Texas Republicans to gerrymander the state to add congressional seats to the map. It’s a power grab pure and simple,” Indivisible Northern AZofficials stated before the event. “Texas is a test case and just the beginning. Trump and his enablers are deliberately working to steal the 2026 election (and beyond) by rigging the electoral maps in their favor well into the future.

From presenters urging everyone to work together during this uncertain political time, to lessons on how to focus on your protest message, be it in interviews with media or even your own protest sign, more than 140 people crowded together at Flagstaff's Federated Church for a "Teach In" on Thursday, July 17 as part of the "Good Trouble Lives On" National Day of Action. The day, which honors the passing five years ago of Congressman John Lewis, featured protests and other forms of action in more than 1,600 locations nationwide. The local program was organized by the Coconino Democrats, Indivisible Northern Arizona and Lived Black Experience. In Flagstaff, the event featured opening remarks by via Zoom by Dr. Justin R. Mallett, vice president of Inclusive Excellence at Northern Arizona University. "We have to start sharing our stories and sharing the work we are doing collectively," he said. America Immigration Council — This Week in Immigration: The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Is Ugly for Tax-Paying Immigrant

I Just Finished a Life-Changing Semester Abroad. But Thanks to Trump’s Policies, I’m Afraid Other Students Won’t Have the Same Opportunity.  After a bittersweet goodbye, I returned to the U.S. in May. Yet while I still was ecstatic over the life-changing experience I had just concluded abroad, the Trump administration was increasing its efforts to target international students wanting to study in the U.S. International students are now increasingly prevented from having the same educational and personal opportunities that I, a U.S. citizen, had just been able to access.

Protesters crowd downtown Flagstaff as part of nationwide ‘No Kings Day’ rally

FLAGSTAFF — With some local media reporting a crowd topping 3,000, Flagstaff residents and Northern Arizona visitors alike turned out in mass for one of the largest rallies in the city in recent memory during the "No Kings Day" mass protest held Saturday, June 14 in front of Flagstaff City Hall. The large crowd came in spite of near mid-summer temperatures approaching 90 degrees, and added personal safety vigilance as a result of deadly political violence earlier in the day in Minnesota. The protest nationwide was organized by the 50501 movement with the local effort hosted by Indivisible Northern AZ. Opponents of the Trump administration crowded the sidewalks from starting at Wheeler Park and Humphreys Street along Route 66 around the curve to Milton Road, filling the grassy area up to the Flagstaff City Hall sign. A sizable crowd of protestors also filled the opposite side of the street up to the Flagstaff Train Depot.
