Flagstaff locals and visitors had a chance to get themselves into ‘Good Trouble’ as part of nationwide day of action on July 17

From presenters urging everyone to work together during this uncertain political time, to lessons on how to focus on your protest message, be it in interviews with media or even your own protest sign, more than 140 people crowded together at Flagstaff's Federated Church for a "Teach In" on Thursday, July 17 as part of the "Good Trouble Lives On" National Day of Action. The day, which honors the passing five years ago of Congressman John Lewis, featured protests and other forms of action in more than 1,600 locations nationwide. The local program was organized by the Coconino Democrats, Indivisible Northern Arizona and Lived Black Experience. In Flagstaff, the event featured opening remarks by via Zoom by Dr. Justin R. Mallett, vice president of Inclusive Excellence at Northern Arizona University. "We have to start sharing our stories and sharing the work we are doing collectively," he said. "..We have to let people know that these events are for everybody...They are there for all of us."

By Indivisible (Click here to see email in your browser) In one week, on July 17, people all across the country will gather together in honor of the late Rep. John Lewis to participate in the Good Trouble Lives On National Day of Action. With MAGA Republicans continuing their ghoulish campaigns to terrorize communities, crush dissent, and tear families apart, it’s more important than ever that we stand up, speak out, and make some good trouble.

Indivisible — A new strategy to undercut Trump’s authoritarian takeover: One Million Rising

Indivisibles, The political landscape is changing, and we have to continue to change with it.  In the past, we’ve been able to lean directly on the power of the ballot box and the pressure we, as constituents, can bring to bear on our elected representatives. Whether it was saving the Affordable Care Act or kicking Trump out of office in 2020, we’ve proven that organizing on a local level to drive progress works -- and that is still true.  But the pressing threat of authoritarianism means that we have to include new strategies to protect the future of our democracy and our people. And that is why we are launching One Million Rising: a campaign to train one million people in the art of strategic non-cooperation to fight authoritarianism.

America Immigration Council — This Week in Immigration: The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Is Ugly for Tax-Paying Immigrant

I Just Finished a Life-Changing Semester Abroad. But Thanks to Trump’s Policies, I’m Afraid Other Students Won’t Have the Same Opportunity.  After a bittersweet goodbye, I returned to the U.S. in May. Yet while I still was ecstatic over the life-changing experience I had just concluded abroad, the Trump administration was increasing its efforts to target international students wanting to study in the U.S. International students are now increasingly prevented from having the same educational and personal opportunities that I, a U.S. citizen, had just been able to access.

LULAC — Urgent ••• Stand Up for Immigrant Essential Workers—Add Your Name

They harvested our food, stocked our shelves, cared for our elders, and kept our hospitals, farms, and factories running while much of the country was in lockdown. Immigrant essential workers are not only vital—they are heroic. But now, too many of them face the threat of deportation, despite the sacrifices they made to keep America going. President Trump has said he wants to protect immigrants working in essential sectors. We must ensure those words become action. More than 160,000 people have already signed the national petition. Let’s raise our voices and demand dignity, protection, and permanence for essential workers.

LULAC hails Federal Court Victory preserving Birthright Citizenship in the United States

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) (July 10) celebrates a landmark decision by U.S. District Judge Joseph Laplante of New Hampshire, who issued a ruling blocking the Trump administration’s executive order seeking to strip automatic birthright citizenship from children born in the United States to undocumented parents. This decision marks a crucial victory for members of LULAC, the first organization to file a lawsuit challenging the administration’s attempt to undermine one of the most fundamental rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.

What a month it has been! Spring passed us by before we knew it, and now summer temperatures are keeping us indoors. Please remember to drink water throughout the day. For some students, school will be starting in just a few short weeks. So much to do and so little time! It’s time for school and sports physicals, and to make sure your son or daughter is up to date on their immunizations.

American Immigration Council — Trump’s $170 billion immigration gamble

Trump Creates New System to Impose Millions in Fines on Undocumented Immigrants Under a new system put in place by the Trump administration on June 27, immigration officers may be able to impose penalties of millions of dollars on certain undocumented immigrants, putting them at risk not only of deportation but of crushing financial debt.

Chicano Latino Law Student Association at ASU launches a hotline to help people change their immigration hearings to online, by phone, in light of ICE arrests

Over the last several months, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has targeted and arrested individuals as they leave or attempt to attend immigration court hearings. This sends a deeply troubling message — that those who attempted to follow the legal process may be placing themselves in harm's way. These tactics risk undermining trust in the legal system and may deter people from pursuing lawful avenues to resolve their immigration status.

Education Forward Arizona — Federal cuts to tribal college funding threaten Arizona’s progress

The proposed federal government funding cuts to tribal colleges across the country from $182 million in 2025 to $22 million in 2026 represent an approximate 90% reduction in funding. This poses a serious threat to their ability to serve students, in mostly rural areas across the country and in Arizona. Tribal colleges, established under the Tribally Controlled Community College Assistance Act of 1978, operate under treaty and trust obligations that guarantee inflation-adjusted funding based on enrollment. ...
